Lady Midget Softball: Leaving a Legacy

Student Author: Maddie H.

It is such an amazing feeling to see your favorite player launch the softball between left and center fields or just out of reach for the opposing third baseman. It makes the hairs on your arms stand up and gets your blood pumping. For the Putnam County Lady Midget Softball team, that's a daily achievement and at that point, they’re just getting started.

Kicking off the season, the Trenton Bulldogs were the first to go down in defeat. “We’ve been itching to beat this team since middle school and getting this win was the best way to kick off the season and get us pumped for what is next,” says Senior, Sammi B.

Milan was next up on the schedule, but our long time rivals didn’t make the cut and we took home two more wins.  After that, the Lady Midgets played 7 more games, sweeping every team in their path. They took home the championship plaque on their home field tournament.

On September 23rd, the Lady Midgets traveled to Kirksville to play on the Truman State softball field for the second year in a row. The girls didn’t disappoint when they took home another big win against the Moberly Spartans with a score of 3-0.

Senior, Katy S. states that, “Winning against bigger schools like Moberly is so important because it shows everyone that we aren’t winning just because we play smaller schools but because we’re great at softball.”

The schedule for future games looks as follows:

  • away at Maysville (9.24)

  • home against South Harrison (9.26)

  • tournament at Chillicothe (9.28)

  • GRC crossover (10.3)

  • tournament away at Centralia (10.5)

  • away at Brookfield (10.7)

  • away at Clark County (10.9)

  • North Harrison at home for Senior night (10.10)

  • Districts (10.16 - 10.19)

Make sure those stands are filled up and wild for the coming games and check out the Putnam County School page for dress up days for the student section!
